Tree Streets Neighborhood

Johnson City, Tennessee • Southside Neighborhood Organization

August 17 from 1-4 pm
Description: Kalana Hula is a Moving Meditation and Energy Dance of Huna Hawaiian Shamanism. Huna is the modern name given to the vast practices and traditions of the indigenous people of Hawaii and Polynesia. One well known practice is that of the hula dance. Like most other dance practices there are many forms and different dances. All of which can be called hula. This seminar teaches the Kalana Hula as practiced by the Kahaili family tradition of Hula. The Kahaili family tradition of Hula is from the island of Kauai.

Similar to the hula this form has rhythmic movements. What is different is that the Kalana hula is a meditation and prayer. The dance itself increases and focuses energy and provides a way to focus that energy to bring about a desire or gain understanding.

What you will learn in this seminar:

The 7 principles of Hula
The 3 selves in the Hula Perspective
Haipule (often translated as spell or prayer)
The Kalana Hula itself.
