Tree Streets Neighborhood

Johnson City, Tennessee • Southside Neighborhood Organization

The Tree Streets Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.  SNO recognized this accomplishment by offering for sale solid bronze historic plaques for contributing homes in the district.  It has been several years since an order has been placed and we are ready to do it again.

There were a number of homes in 1996 that were noncontributing (N) because of their age or altered through renovations that they no longer appear to be historic resources and therefore do not contribute to the character or streetscape of the district.  There is a simple application process the homeowner can submit if the alterations have been removed or the house comes of age.  This application must be submitted by the homeowner.

The price of the plaques are now $165.20 each.  This is with us getting a 20% discount.  If we order 25 or more we can get an additional 10% off.  Shipping is expensive so will combine orders for a cheaper rate. We will only be placing orders for pre-paid plaques.  We will have a deadline of March 31 so try to reach the 25 to get an additional discount.  The order may be placed earlier if it looks like we aren't anywhere near getting 25.

Below is the link to the 100 page report from the United States Department of the Interior where you can see if your house is contributing (C) or not (N)

There is also a map on page 93 that shows what the district boundaries are.
