Model Mill Walking History Tour

In 1909 George L. Carter built the Model Mill in Johnson City. One of the first thriving industries in Johnson City, it also was the largest employer at that time. We have the Model Mill to thank for the birth of the Tree Streets and being a driving economic engine for our young town. Come out and join our community as we take a guided walking tour of the Model Mill and share stories of how Johnson City began.

- Ken Harrison has offered to bring memorabilia, photos, & stories about the Model Mill and Tree Streets.

- Bob Cox has offered to write an article for the JC Press on the Model Mill and give us an advance draft to use on our history tour.

- Tom Seaton has offered to let us use The Firehouse parking lot as a meeting point and kick off for the tour. He has also graciously offered to provide tea & lemonade and tables for us to display items.

- Archives of Appalachia is looking through their archives to share any pictures, items, stories about the Model Mill

Rough Schedule

4pm meet & greet with refreshments, memorabilia, etc. at The Firehouse parking lot

4:15 Walk from The Firehouse around the Model Mill. Stop on each corner for a story & photos.

- Corner 1 Tom Seaton talk about Firehouse #2 and the panoramic photo of the Model Mill & tree streets

- Corner 2 Ken Harrison talk about Tree Streets forming

- Corner 3 Jose will read Bob Cox article

- Corner 4 TBD

4:45 Arrive back at the starting point

5pm Wrap up and encourage people to get connected with people, orbs, websites for more info.
